Amoxicillin is one of the drugs that is perfectly safe for use during pregnancy. Amoxicillin produces no harm to a fetus or to a pregnancy.
According to FDA there are no controlled studies done to document the effects of Amoxicillin on Pregnancy, but there are a few observational studies on Amoxicillin use in pregnancy. TERIS, - the Teratogen Information System - concluded that therapeutic doses during pregnancy are unlikely to pose a substantial teratogenic risk (quantity and quality of data = fair), but the data are insufficient to state that there is no risk. This means that what doses of amoxicillin are usually given in pregnancy are usually safe. There is insufficient data available on Long-term Amoxicillin use in pregnancy.
Amoxicillin belongs to Penicillins group of antibiotics, and amoxicillin is more rapidly and better absorbed in GI tract, when given orally.
Amoxil, Larotid, Trimox, Wymox are the Trade Name forms of Amoxicillin.
